The Making of a Watchmaker: Amber's Story
Amber's story is one of dedication, skill and the pursuit of mastery. Her journey with Deacons began during her school years when she joined for work experience, drawn to the artistry and craftsmanship of watchmaking. While completing her education, she returned as a weekend service centre staff member, assisting with battery replacements, bracelet adjustments and various other tasks, immersing herself in the practicalities of horology at just 16 years old.
“From work experience to completing Rolex training, Amber’s journey is built on dedication, precision and a commitment to mastering her craft.”

After completing her education, Amber joined Deacons full-time as a watchmaking apprentice. She initially specialised in clocks for three years before transitioning to watches, combining technical expertise with meticulous attention to detail. Her training included an intensive year-long placement at the British School of Watchmaking, completing 1,800 hours under the WOSTEP programme. In 2021, she undertook extensive Rolex training courses, both in Geneva, Switzerland. These achievements enable Amber to repair and service Rolex's most iconic sports models. Today, Amber is part of a highly skilled team of four watchmakers at Deacons' in-house Rolex service centre, working alongside a Level 50 certified watchmaker - the highest level of Rolex accreditation.
At Deacons, Amber now works with state-of-the-art equipment, including an advanced fathometer used for precision testing of the Submariner's water resistance - a critical element of this iconic dive watch's performance. This investment in cutting-edge technology ensures that every Rolex timepiece serviced at Deacons meets the brand's exacting standards, giving customers complete confidence in the integrity of their watches. It's this commitment to combining traditional craftsmanship with the very best modern technology that allows Deacons to deliver a seamless, world-class experience when servicing and repairing treasured watch collections.
“The greatest satisfaction comes from seeing a watch restored to perfection, clean, polished and functioning flawlessly.”
Over the past 12 years, Amber’s dedication to craftsmanship has continued to define her work. She finds the greatest satisfaction in seeing a watch restored to perfection - clean, polished and functioning flawlessly - a testament to her skill and precision. Her favourite model to work on is the Rolex Explorer, admired for its refined construction, timeless design and the satisfying challenge it presents in the workshop. One of her most memorable experiences was visiting Rolex headquarters in Geneva for training, an inspiring encounter that deepened her appreciation for the brand's heritage and rigorous quality benchmarks.
Amber's journey from curious school student to highly skilled, Rolex-trained watchmaker exemplifies the spirit of excellence and craftsmanship that defines Deacons. Her story reminds us that with passion, dedication and careful attention to detail, mastery is not simply learnt, it is earned.
