Jewellery Workshop
Deacons' new purpose built on-site Jewellery Workshops have been operational since 1996, having replaced the old workshops that had changed very little since Victorian England. The highly skilled and experienced workforce offer a comprehensive service, whether it be repairing something old from the past or creating something new for the customer who wants to be different.
In a world that has become increasingly uniform in terms of product availability it is sometimes nice to be able to offer the service of making something individual, whether it be in silver, gold or platinum. Deacons welcome the challenge of making special commissioned items of Jewellery.
Repairs of every description are undertaken from a single soldering repair to restoring an antique piece of Jewellery. The sizing of rings of all types takes place on a daily basis, usually with a fast return to the customer. Nearly all Jewellery repairs are carried out on-site enabling Deacons to offer a first class service.
Since 1986 Deacon & Son Limited has had its own Hallmark, registered at the Birmingham Assay office. This has enabled the company to produce some of its own branded products such as bangles, cufflinks, tie slides, rings, earrings and pendants either in sterling silver, 9 or 18 carat gold or even platinum. Each item comes in a smart presentation box with the Company's Hallmark featured inside the box lid. Each piece can be personalised by hand engraving initials, names or even short messages.
Explaining The Hallmark
Each piece of jewellery made of precious metal has to be Hallmarked by law. The Hallmark is made up of the sponsor's mark, Deacon & Son Ltd, the Anchor symbol which identifies the Birmingham Assay office, the Lion Pesant which guarantees the metal quality, and a Letter representing the year date.

A highly skilled craftsman solders a gold ring. Soldering is part and parcel of every day jewellery repair work, whether it be in gold, silver or platinum.
An example of a Gem Set Ring being sized up. Most rings can be sized up or down by a small amount without having to cut the ring shank. However, often it is necessary to either remove (to make smaller) or to add gold (to make larger) to carry out the sizing.
