The origins of Deacons' clock workshop go right back to the start of the business in 1848. Deacons' founder, George Deacon, was a trained watch and clock maker. During the early years of the business George produced many of his own time pieces, including long case clocks with painted rural scenes on the dial, 8 day carriage clocks and slate cased mantel clocks typical of Victorian England.
Fortunately, his skills were handed down to his nephew, Hubert, who continued the family tradition. As the business expanded more labour was recruited, but always the skills of clock making have been passed on from one generation to another.
In more recent times the company has produced its own limited edition carriage clocks which were mainly sold in the United States. The tradition of clock making is still a thriving part of the business and time is very much on people's minds into the new millennium.
Deacons undertake clock repairs of every description, varying from the restoration of turret clocks in church towers to the most basic alarm clock, covering over 350 years of history.
