Silverware

SilverwareOne of Deacons' many specialisms is in the field of Antique, Second Hand and Modern items of Silverware, which can make wonderful presentation gifts.

Silver has been admired for its beauty and value for centuries. The Romans called the metal 'argentum', hence its chemical symbol, Ag, and the French word 'argent' means silver as well as money.

In Britain the tradition of manufacturing silver stretches back nearly 700 years and is the oldest and most distinguished in the world with Hallmarking conventions going back to the 1300s. Silversmithing reached its peak in England during the 18th Century with the arrival of the Hugenots. Indeed, it is possible to see a fine selection of Georgian & Victorian silver items in Deacons' Wood Street showroom.

Barker Ellis

Barker Ellis has been producing items of fine quality Silver and Silver plate since 1801 when the Barker family opened their first workshop in Birmingham.

In 1931 the Ellis Silver Company amalgamated with the Barkers to form the Barker Ellis Silver Company.
